Lag. The new node is up and running!

As you might heard last Saturday (16.03.2013) we had “Hacklab warming party”. And it was great! Very nice atmosphere, a lot of people with interesting ideas, and what is most important, motivated to do stuff!

We’ve had what we hope to become reoccurring stamtisch event, where we discussed about the past, present and future of hacktivism and it’s impact on technology and politics. We also looked at simple daily life hacks in the picture collection of Alex Zakkas which triggered lots of interesting discussions. All this accompanied by the electro music by “mmh gianni blu” , Alexander’s Gameboy machine and Dickreckard’s self 3d printed vinyl noise.

Last drops of alcohol were finished around 3:00 am.

Operation – Save our shit

Amsterdam Squatting movement is suffering the biggest repression ever seen. Since the squatting ban (october 2010) a lot (most of) squats in the city had been evicted. We (SLUG) were also affected by the city policy and were not able to open new squatted hacklab in the “free”city of Amsterdam. That is one of the main reasons we decided to go for more stable option and thanks to BinnenPret collective this was made possible. Still we had to rescue all the junk that we have been collecting through out the years. Recent evictions of couple of squats and coming eviction of The Basement where we’ve been storing most of “our shit” forced us to once again move it to safety. Of course we’re “always looking at the bright side of life” which in this case means sorting out the stuff so we can realize how much old useless junk we have. Continue reading →

LAG – Renovation work has begun

For last weeks we’ve been busy preparing the place in Binnenpret for total renovation. Here, sharing the space together with other projects (such as RPM recording studio, ASB Anarcho-sindicalist union, and a wood workshop) we’re going to open new hacklab.

For now it is mainly demolishing work. We had to remove all the old walls,/floors and other mysterious constructions left by the group running SaunaFenomen. At this moment we are getting close to actual building. We need to build new walls separating the projects as well as make new electricity, water and gas installation in the building. We are hoping to finish all that in the mid-september, so then we can start preparing LAG to be open.
