[Lag] Fixing time

Hi everyone,

Lagging as always with updates.

The roof renovation of the Binnenpret has finished some weeks ago. We’re still waiting for the new roof window to be placed but all the major (leak causing work) has been done. So we’ve looked at the damage and started fixing the place up.

The estimated damage is around 300/400 euro. We have to replace 15m2 of the floor, the back wall, and some pieces of walls in the back that got “infected” with fungus. Fortunatelly the Binnen Pret collective decided to pay the costs for materials so at least we don’t run into the debt.

For last two weeks we’ve been busy fixing the walls. All the wood/plaster with fungus were removed and the whole back area (including the floor) has been treated with bleach and special anti-fungus stuff (more bleach).

Last week we’ve replaced all the missing wood and plasterboards and started plastering so everything would be nice and even.

Below you can see the planning for coming weeks so if you have time and feel like helping out please do so:

  • 16th January (Thursday) from 19:00-23:00  – Finishing with plaster
  • 17th 18th January (Friday) – 19:00 – 22:00 Painting walls
  • 18th 23rd January (Saturday) 14:00 – 22:00 – Placing new floor, cleaning up the place, moving stuff back into place
  • 25th, 30th  January (Thursdays from 19:00 Saturdays from 14:00)- More cleaning, rearranging, painting making the place look awesome etc.
  • 1st February (Saturday) from 14:00 – 23:00  – We are up and running again \o/

Lag update

Hi guys,

Recently I’ve spoken with few people coordinating works on the roof to get more details. Here they are;

Since last week company that suppose to renovate the roof of the building is busy with it. They say it will take between three to four weeks (depending on the weather). Only after they are done we can start estimating the damage and start fixing. They are currently putting new isolation on the roof and soon will start putting new roof tiles and fixing gutters and drain pipes. Also good information for all of us is that most probably Lag will get nice big roof window so we’ll have more daylight.

The electricity was still down in the whole building (saturday 19th October). The blackout should be solved within days, so we’re going to be back online soon.

For now we need to keep the ‘valuable’ stuff in the middle of the place until works are done.

So basically all we can do now is wait and hope there won’t be gigantic storms in next weeks. As for damage.

Most probably the floor in the back of the place will have to be replaced. Hopefully the front part of the floor did not suffer too much and we won’t have to replace that.As soon as we’re not in a danger of floods we will try to dry the back walls and hope that will be enough. Otherwise we will have to replace that as well.

Coming saturday (26th october) Lag should be back online and we’re going to move stuff around, clean up,  check the damage and try to do some fun stuff as well, so  come along.

LAG is floodded, LAG is closed.

Due to roof works on building, we’re experiencing quite some leaks and sometimes even floods in the Lag. The situation was quite dramatic for last three days. We scooped hectolitres of water from the place and were forced to switch off the power in the hole building. Therefore we’ve decided to cancel all public events this month, and move them to november, where hopefully the roof works will be finished and we won’t have more leaks.

As soon as we estimate damages both in our place as well as all the other projects in the building that suffer the same fate this weekend (ASB,MKZ, RPM recording studio, wood workshop, living apartments), we’ll inform you how we want to proceed.

We will need quite some extra hands to help out so keep an eye on future updates / announcements and come to help us out.

10th August (19:00)- Discussion night: Cybernetics and the Role of the Unknown in Science

flyerEmergence, self-organisation, autonomy, chaos, complexity – these are words which were invented by cyberneticians bound to conquer the unknown. The crisis of sciences at the turn of the last century demonstrated that not everything which is mechanistic is predictable. The cybernetic solution to these problems was to find a way to incorporate the unknown, the irreducible qualities of life into scientific models nonetheless – and finally, to deny its existence altogether. At this point the model replaced reality, and life had to be broken down into something easily calculable. As we tend to ground our political tactics and strategies in the above terms we have to understand them and go beyond their compromised origins and at the same time reinvent our own politics.
